RVK performed departmental meetings with SAISD’s Transportation, Maintenance, Operations, and Police stakeholders to ascertain spatial and functional requirements of the various components for a new 40 Acre Service Center masterplan. The masterplan was designed in a manner to allow for the four main components to be constructed in phases as funding becomes available. Phase I was completed in March of 2016 and consisted of paved parking for 109 buses and 132 cars, along with a 2,560 sf bus wash facility and a separate fuel station. A bus wash facility features translucent wall panels and a prefinished standing seam metal roof. An electrically operated gate system, ornamental steel fence, and drought-tolerant native and naturalized plant material were designed along Roland Avenue to define the entrance.

Phase II was completed in April of 2019 and consisted of a new bus transportation building utilizing prefinished metal roof panels with vertical wall panels, prefinished standing seam metal roof canopies and frames, and custom-colored overhead sectional doors. The front building (east elevation) signage features solid 24” high vinyl lettering, while the front entryway signage was designed using white perforated lettering. The south and north elevations each contain seven bays with overhead section doors. The interior layout was designed to accommodate both the maintenance area and office area. The maintenance area features a tire rack room, vehicle maintenance room and maintenance bays, with bulk storage and tool storage areas. Offices were also provided adjacent to the maintenance bays for the shop superintendent, shop office and filing rooms. The main office area includes a large training room, break room, driver’s lobby, reception area, training/work rooms, and numerous offices, as well as restrooms, storage, and support areas.

Phase III and IV are projected to begin in 2020 consisting of a 31,600 sf Operations Building with an estimated budget of $5.8 Million and 12,600 sf Police Department estimated at $3.7 Million.
